I'm Tom's girlfriend Mina, and as I'm sure anyone reading will know, Tom is lead guitarist with Plan B. The last niight of Plan B's UK tour 2010 was at Liverpool University Student Union, significant beacuse Liverpool is Patti's home town and a place that Simon loved (and had great success record shopping!), and also because Liverpool is the home of the Roy Castle Foundation, with whom we have set up Simon's Tribute Fund. I had a lovely night and it was a fitting night for an end show. The band played with high energy (as usual) and the audience loved it! It's always wonderful seeing Tom on stage, especially as Plan B's doing so well. I plucked up the courage to shove my way through to the front so that I could get a clear view of him. Four lovely people from Roy Castle were collecting for the Foundation that night, so Ben told the audience that Tom's Dad had passed away from lung cancer and that the album "The Defamation of Strickland Banks" was dedicated to Simon, to raise awareness of the disease and how it can affect anyone. It was so moving because I know how much Simon would've loved to have seen Tom touring the UK and the album doing so well. He was so proud of Tom but unfortunately didn't get to see the reception the album received. Anyway, this announcement really helped boost the funds! As I stood outside the doors of the venue, pretty much everybody put something into the buckets which was brilliant to see. It was also lovely that Tom and I were able to meet Joanna and her colleagues for the first time, who worked so hard that night, carrying those heavy buckets of money in the cold! xx
